<p>Join Charles as he demonstrates how to set up and dial-in the <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/products/profitec-t64-espresso-grinder" target="_blank">Profitec T64 Espresso Grinder</a>. Please note that Clive Coffee also offers a <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/products/clive-grinder-dial-in-service?__hstc=233546881.0b28e4c3eaddbf992d48a6f56562af77.1540242137367.1543868548170.1543888548690.13&amp;__hssc=233546881.3.1543888548690&amp;__hsfp=1770161982" target="_blank">grinder dial-in service</a> if you prefer to have someone else do the hard work for you!</p><div><div class="embed-component"><iframe allowfullscreen="true" height="314" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/0UlgAiYRZ_I" width="560"></iframe></div></div><h3 id="step-one-out-of-the-box-and-onto-the-counter"><strong>Step one: Out of the box and onto the counter</strong></h3><ul><li>Remove the grinder from its box and place it on a solid level surface.</li><li>Inspect the grinder for any damage. If you notice any, contact us immediately.</li><li>Insert the hopper and tighten the hopper fastening screw.</li><li>Plug the grinder in and turn it on.</li></ul><h3 id="step-two-feeling-the-coffee"><strong>Step two: Feeling the coffee</strong></h3><ul><li>Drop some beans in the hopper and grind them into your hand.</li><li>Feel the grounds. For espresso, they should feel similar to table salt. Not as fine as powdered sugar, and not as coarse as sand.</li></ul><h3 id="step-three-dialing-the-dose"><strong>Step three: Dialing the dose</strong></h3><ul><li>Once the grind is in the ballpark, it&#x2019;s time to start pulling shots.</li><li>First, grab a scale and tare the weight of the portafilter.</li><li>If you plan to single dose, simply weigh out your beans ahead of time and grind them through.</li><li>If you plan to do weight-based dosing, now would be the time to fill your hopper.</li><li>Insert your portafilter into the grinder&#x2019;s portafilter holder.</li><li>Press and hold either of the two timed dose buttons. This will grind manually and stop the moment you release the button. Grind until the basket looks about full, then release the button.</li><li>Now weigh the portafilter. Add or remove grounds as necessary to get to 20g if you&#x2019;re using a triple basket, or 18g if you&#x2019;re using a double.</li></ul><h3 id="step-four-adjustments---shot-time"><strong>Step four: Adjustments - shot time</strong></h3><ul><li>Grip the tamper handle as though you were grasping a doorknob. Tamp straight down and simply lean your weight into it comfortably. The amount of pressure is not nearly as important as your consistency and ability to keep the tamp perfectly level so water doesn&#x2019;t find weak spots.</li><li>Insert your portafilter and start the shot.</li><li>As the shot progresses, we&#x2019;ll observe the total shot time: Our target output is 1.5oz (or 30g) liquid espresso in 25 - 30 seconds.</li><li>Stop your shot when you get to that 30-gram output, and then note the time.</li><li>If it falls under 25 seconds, adjust your grind finer. If it falls over 30 seconds, adjust coarser.</li><li>Make small adjustments of about one full rotation at a time. This will be easier than making big changes and overcorrecting.</li></ul><h3 id="step-five-timed-dosing"><strong>Step five: Timed Dosing</strong></h3><ul><li>Now that we have our grind dialed, we can set up the grind timer for consistent and repeatable dosing.</li><li>Press both the plus and minus buttons simultaneously. Then, when the display shows &#x201C;t1&#x201D; quickly press the plus button to edit the first timed dose setting. Using the plus and minus buttons, set the time to 7.5 seconds. This will set the time for the left dose button.</li><li>If you&#x2019;d like to set the time for the second dose button on the right press both the plus and minus buttons at the same time once more, then the minus button to switch to &#x201C;t2&#x201D;, and then the plus button to edit that setting.</li><li>Tare the portafilter, grind using the desired timed dose button, and weigh the portafilter again. If the dose is too small, increase the timed setting. Keep pressing either one of the grinding buttons until the desired amount of coffee has been ground. &#x201C;man&#x201D; is displayed during manual grinding</p><p><strong>Stopping the grinding process &#x2013;&#xA0;</strong>Press one of the grinding buttons You can stop the grinding process by pressing either of the grinding buttons during timed grinding.</p><h3 id="cleaning-your-grinder"><strong><a href="https://clivecoffee.com/products/urnex-grindz-grinder-cleaner/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Cleaning your Grinder</a></strong></h3><p><strong>Cleaning of the housing and the bean hopper -&#xA0;</strong>Occasionally clean the housing and the tray with a damp cloth. You should clean the bean hopper with a cloth prior to refilling the hopper in order to remove coffee oil residues. These residues can negatively effect the flavor.</p><p><strong>Cleaning of the burrs -&#xA0;</strong>Please use <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/products/urnex-grindz-grinder-cleaner/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Urnex Grindz</a> cleaner as directed.</p><h3 id="tips-and-troubleshooting"><strong>Tips and Troubleshooting</strong></h3><p>Should a bean become stuck in the grinding mechanism, you may easily fix this yourself.</p><ol><li>Adjust the grind to a coarser degree. Turn the grind adjuster counter-clockwise by two full turns.</li><li>Press the grinding button and grind coffee. The stuck beans should now come loose.</li><li>Re-adjust the grind.</li></ol><p>In case the grind setting of your grinder changes autonomously after many grinding procedures, it is most likely that vibrations during grinding have caused the bracket of the grind level adjuster to become loose.
