Please read through the entirety of the setup guide before following along. Additional information can be found in the <a href="https://clive-coffee.gorgias.help/en-US/profitec-move-user-manual-884323" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Profitec MOVE User Manual</a><img alt="Profitec_MOVE_ProductMap" class="hs-image-align-none fr-fic fr-dii" height="550" src="https://4309359.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hubfs/4309359/Profitec_MOVE_ProductMap.jpg" style="height: auto; width: 688px;" width="688">Step 1: Inspect the box and the machine for damage<ul><li>Remove the machine from the box and place it on a stable, level surface.</li></ul><div><ul><li>Before adding water and turning on the machine, inspect for damage that may have occurred during shipping. If you notice any damage, <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/pages/contact" rel="noopener" target="_blank">contact us immediately</a>.</li><li>Save all packaging in case of <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/pages/returns-and-exchanges" rel="noopener" target="_blank">returns</a> and<a href="https://clivecoffee.com/pages/espresso-machine-repair-service" rel="noopener" target="_blank">&#xA0;repairs</a>.</li></ul><h3 id="step-2-water-quality-and-filling-the-reservoir">Step 2: Water quality and filling the reservoir</h3><ul><li>Before introducing water to your machine, it&apos;s essential to test it to ensure it&apos;s adequately soft, around 50 ppm (parts per million). Use the included water test strips from your home barista starter kit to verify the hardness of your water. To learn more about our recommendations for water quality, check out our blog post, <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/blogs/learn/the-importance-of-water-and-your-espresso-machine" rel="noopener" target="_blank">The Importance of Water and Your Espresso Machine.</a> Do not use distilled or Zero water in your espresso machine, as the machine will not register that the reservoir has been filled.&#xA0;</li><li>Lift the 2-holed reservoir lid. Then, use both hands to remove the reservoir or fill it with water from the top. Fill the water tank with filtered, softened water and place the cup warming tray back on top of the machine.&#xA0;</li><li>Please note that you may have to fill the reservoir once more after the initial boiler fill phase.</li></ul><h3 id="step-3-turning-on-your-machine-and-filling-your-boilers">Step 3: Turning on your machine and filling your boilers</h3><ul><li>Your machine is set for use on a 110v outlet. Prior to starting the machine, check if the steam and hot water valves are closed (both joysticks pointing outward toward you). Check to ensure the machine is off (the power button is not pressed inward) and the drip tray is inserted accurately.</li><li>Plug your machine directly into a grounded socket (do not use an extension cord) and turn it on by using the ON/OFF button on the front panel below the MOVE wordmark. The green LED light around the power button will illuminate.&#xA0;</li><li>Now, the boiler will begin filling. The display on the PID will show a fill message. Place a receptacle under the group head, press one of the shot buttons, and let the pump run for about 30 seconds or until water starts free-flowing from the group head. Press the shot button again to stop the water flow. Your brew boiler is now filled.&#xA0;</li><li>The Fill message&#xA0;will disappear from the PID, and your steam boiler will begin filling.&#xA0;</li><li>As soon as the steam boiler has finished filling, you will no longer hear any pump noise. Note: You may need to refill your water reservoir during or immediately after this process.&#xA0;</li><li>&#xA0;The Heating UP message will now appear on the PID. When heated up to the set temperature, the brew temperature is shown on the PID. The machine is ready to pull shots!</li><li>Place the portafilter into the group head to ensure maximum temperature stability. </li></ul><h3 id="step-4-rinsing-the-machine">Step 4: Rinsing the Machine&#xA0;</h3><ul><li>Rinse the machine with 2-3 water tank refills before preparing your first espresso.</li><li>Switch off the machine using the on/off button and drain water out of it using the hot water wand.</li><li>Refill the water tank and switch on the machine. &#xA0;Wait until the brew temperature is shown on the display.</li><li>Repeat this procedure three times.</li></ul></div><div>Step 5: Fast Heat-up Mode and Pulling Your First Shots&#xA0;</div>If the function &#x201C;Enable Fast Heating&#x201D; is activated, the machine quickly heats up to approx. 120&#xB0;C in order to heat up the brew group faster. When this temperature is reached, the flush icon appears on the display.<ul><li>This icon indicates that a flush needs to be performed within 60 seconds in order to lower the boiler temperature to the normal set temperature.</li><li>Press one of the shot buttons. The duration in seconds is shown on the display.</li><li>After 10 seconds, the flush automatically finishes, and the &#x201C;Ready Go&#x201D; icon appears. The machine is ready to pull shots.&#xA0;</li></ul>If the flush has not been performed within 60 seconds, the machine stops heating up and reduces the brew temperature. Please read carefully before operating your heat exchanger or vibratory pump espresso machine. The <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/products/profitec-move-espresso-machine?_pos=1&amp;_psq=profitec+move&amp;_ss=e&amp;_v=1.0" rel="noopener" target="_blank">product page&#xA0;</a>lists specifications, accessories, and other details on the Profitec MOVE.&#xA0;<h3 id="getting-started">Getting Started:&#xA0;</h3>After reading through the <a href="https://clive-coffee.gorgias.help/en-US/profitec-move-setup-guide-884325" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Profitec MOVE setup guide</a>, test your water. Espresso machines have specific requirements when it comes to water. There are two primary considerations: filtration and hardness.&#xA0;Please carefully read about <a href="https://clive-coffee.gorgias.help/en-US/the-importance-of-water-composition-in-espresso-883777" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">the importance of water in espresso</a> to understand <a href="https://clive-coffee.gorgias.help/en-US/how-water-affects-your-espresso-machine-883778" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">how water affects your espresso machine</a>. For further learning, check out <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/products/coffee-school-water-101-with-third-wave-water" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Coffee School&apos;s Water 101</a>Note: It&apos;s essential to test your water, filter, and soften to obtain 35-85 ppm to avoid scale and damage to your machine. RO (reverse osmosis) or distilled water does not contain enough mineral content and could cause issues with your machine. The <a href="http://www.scaa.org/?d=water-standards&amp;page=resources" rel="noopener" target="_blank">SCA Water for Brewing Standards</a> explains what&apos;s needed to obtain water suitable for your machine and coffee.<h3 id="technical-details">Technical Details:</h3>Please look at the <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/products/profitec-move-espresso-machine?_pos=1&amp;_psq=profitec+move&amp;_ss=e&amp;_v=1.0#specs" rel="noopener" target="_blank">spec table on our product page</a> for a complete list of technical details.<h3 id="adjusting-the-pid-and-accessing-sub-menus">Adjusting the PID and Accessing Sub-Menus</h3>To change the brew &amp; steam temperatures, active &amp; passive pre-infusion, program one or both of the shot-pulling buttons to dispense espresso automatically, and several other options, follow these instructions:&#xA0;<ul><li>We recommend performing this process with coffee after your grind size is dialed in.&#xA0; </li><li>To open the main menu, press and hold the left-hand and right-hand display buttons for 3 seconds, and the Brew Temperature&#xA0;icon will appear on the display. To open a sub-menu&#xA0;while in the main menu, repeatedly press the left-hand or right-hand display button until the desired sub-menu&#xA0;is displayed.&#xA0;</li><li>Press the top pull button, and the selected submenu opens. The corresponding submenu settings are shown on the display.</li><li>&#xA0;In the submenu, repeatedly press the left-hand or right-hand display buttons until the desired settings are displayed.&#xA0;</li><li>To save&#xA0;a setting, press the top pull button. Your setting is now saved.&#xA0;</li><li>Next, press the bottom pull button, and the sub-menu closes and re-enters the main menu on the PID.&#xA0;</li></ul><h3 id="activating-and-adjusting-pre-infusion">Activating and Adjusting Pre-Infusion&#xA0;</h3>If pre-infusion is activated, the pump will run for 3 seconds&#xA0;after you press one of the pull buttons. After 3 seconds, the pump pauses for 8 seconds to fully saturate the coffee puck. After 8 seconds, the pump starts up again and will extract at 9 bar for your preset pull time. If pre-infusion is deactivated, the pump starts up after extraction begins.&#xA0;<ul><li>To enable or disable pre-infusion, enter the pre-infusion sub-menu.&#xA0;</li><li>Next, enter the brew settings&#xA0;sub-menu.&#xA0;</li><li>The brew settings menu will allow you to adjust these settings: setting the brew parameters for the top pull button, setting the brew parameters for the bottom pull button, shot time (total duration of pump activity, the duration of the passive pre-infusion is not taken into account in the shot time). Pre-infusion pause: Select the ON option to activate pre-infusion for the desired pull button. Select the OFF option to deactivate the button function. Duration in seconds, after which the pump activity for passive pre-infusion is interrupted. Time&#x2014;duration of the passive pre-infusion in seconds.</li><li>To activate&#xA0;or deactivate&#xA0;pre-infusion for each desired shot button, press and hold the shot button for 4 seconds.&#xA0;Depending on the current setting, the LED of the pull button will flash ON (pre-infusion activated for this button) or OFF (pre-infusion deactivated for this button) and appear on the display.</li><li>After pre-infusion is set to ON&#xA0;for the desired pull button, briefly press it. The pull button&apos;s LED will flash. The timer that programs the duration from the start of pre-infusion will begin on the display.&#xA0;</li><li>After the desired time has elapsed, press the pull button again, and the icon &#x201C;---&#x201D; for passive pre-infusion will appear on the display.&#xA0;</li><li>After the desired pre-infusion time has elapsed, press the pull button a third time. The button&apos;s LED flashes, and the timer for the pull time resumes on the display. After the desired time has elapsed, press the pull button for a final time.
