Please read carefully before operating your heat exchanger or vibratory pump espresso machine. The <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/products/profitec-jump-espresso-machine" rel="noopener" target="_blank">product page&#xA0;</a>lists specifications, accessories, and other details on the Profitec JUMP.&#xA0;<h3 id="getting-started">Getting Started:&#xA0;</h3>After reading through the <a href="https://clive-coffee.gorgias.help/en-US/profitec-jump-setup-guide-884319" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Profitec JUMP setup guide</a>, test your water. Espresso machines have specific requirements when it comes to water. There are two primary considerations: filtration and hardness.&#xA0;Please carefully read about <a href="https://clive-coffee.gorgias.help/en-US/the-importance-of-water-composition-in-espresso-883777" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">the importance of water in espresso</a> to understand <a href="https://clive-coffee.gorgias.help/en-US/how-water-affects-your-espresso-machine-883778" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">how water affects your espresso machine</a>. RO (reverse osmosis) or distilled water does not contain enough mineral content and could cause issues with your machine. The <a href="http://www.scaa.org/?d=water-standards&amp;page=resources" rel="noopener" target="_blank">SCA Water for Brewing Standards</a> explains what&apos;s needed to obtain water suitable for your machine and coffee.<h3 id="technical-details">Technical Details:</h3>Please look at the <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/products/profitec-jump-espresso-machine#specs" rel="noopener" target="_blank">spec table on our product page</a> for a complete list of technical details.<h3 id="changing-the-brew-temperature">Changing the Brew Temperature:</h3><img alt="ProfitecJump_BoilerTemp" class="hs-image-align-none fr-fic fr-dii" height="542" src="https://4309359.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hubfs/4309359/ProfitecJump_BoilerTemp.jpg" style="height: auto; width: 688px;" width="688">The 3-way temperature switch under the machine allows you to adjust the brew temperature of the JUMP before pulling a shot or during use. The preset temperatures for the JUMP are I (low), II (medium), and III (high), which are great for dark, medium, and light roasts, respectively. The below temperatures may vary depending on operating time and ambient temperature. Since the machine is a heat exchanger, the brew water is heated indirectly by the boiler; you must flush water (known as a cooling flush through the group head) for several seconds before pulling your espresso shot.&#xA0;<ul><li>Position I&#x2014;120&#xB0;C/248&#xB0;F corresponds to a brewing temperature of 90&#xB0;C/194&#xB0;F</li><li>Position II&#x2014;124&#xB0;C/255.2&#xB0;F corresponds to a brewing temperature of 94&#xB0;C/201.2&#xB0;F</li><li>Position III&#x2014;128&#xB0;C/262.4&#xB0;F corresponds to a brewing temperature of 98&#xB0;C//208.4&#xB0;F* *Note that we only recommend position III for increased steam pressure, not for most espresso extractions.&#xA0;</li></ul><h3 id="eco-mode">ECO Mode:</h3>ECO mode is set to 90 minutes by default for energy-saving purposes. The machine will begin heating down. A dot moves across the display, indicating that the machine is in&#xA0;ECO mode. You can wake it up again by lifting the brew lever up and down.&#xA0;Here&apos;s how to deactivate ECO mode:&#xA0;<ul><li>Ensure the machine is OFF and that the water reservoir is at least halfway full of water.&#xA0;</li><li>Move the brew lever up all the way as though you are pulling a shot.</li><li>Ensure that the 3-way temperature switch is set to the middle position (position II).&#xA0;</li><li>Turn the machine on, and the PID display will read PI.</li><li>Pull down the brew lever, and the PID will read ECO. You have 5 Seconds&#xA0;to change the setting.</li><li>Set the switch to the rear position (position III) and then back to the middle position (position II).</li><li>The PID display will read the messages ECO and ON. The machine will return to normal operation after a few seconds.&#xA0;</li></ul><h3 id="activating-pre-infusion">Activating Pre-Infusion:&#xA0;</h3>Pre-infusion is meant to saturate the entire puck of coffee with water at a low pressure before full pressure is applied to the coffee. This influences even extraction and better-tasting espresso. Pre-infusion is inactive by default; follow these steps to activate pre-infusion on the Profitec JUMP.&#xA0;<ul><li>Ensure the machine is OFF and that the water reservoir is at least halfway full of water.&#xA0;</li><li>Move the brew lever up all the way as though you are pulling a shot.&#xA0;</li><li>Ensure that the 3-way temperature switch is set to the middle position (position II).&#xA0;</li><li>Turn the machine on, and the PID display will read PI.</li><li>Set the 3-way switch to the front position (position I) and then back to the middle position (position II).</li><li>The PID will now read PI and ON.</li><li>Pull the brew lever all the way down. The PID will read ECO for 5 seconds.</li></ul>To reactivate pre-infusion, please refer to the manufacturer&apos;s manual.&#xA0;<h3 id="pump-pressure-adjustment">&#xA0;Pump Pressure Adjustment:&#xA0;</h3><ul><li>To access the pump pressure adjustment screw, first remove the cup warming tray. The expansion valve adjustment screw is located on the right top panel.&#xA0;</li><li>To set the pump pressure, replace your portafilter basket with the backflush basket and lock it into the group head.&#xA0;</li><li>Raise the brew lever and then wait a few seconds for the pressure to rise. After the pressure has risen, use a flathead screwdriver to turn the expansion valve adjustment screw.</li><li>Turning clockwise will increase the pressure, and counterclockwise will decrease the pressure. Additional information can be found in the <a href="https://clive-coffee.gorgias.help/en-US/profitec-jump-user-manual-884318" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Profitec JUMP User Manual</a><h3 id><img alt="Profitec_JUMP_ProductMap" class="hs-image-align-none fr-fic fr-dii" height="550" src="https://4309359.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hubfs/4309359/Profitec_JUMP_ProductMap.jpg" style="height: auto; width: 688px;" width="688"></h3><h3 id="step-1-inspect-the-box-and-the-machine-for-damage">Step 1: Inspect the box and the machine for damage</h3><ul><li>Remove the machine from the box and place it on a stable, level surface.</li><li>Before adding water and turning on the machine, inspect for damage that may have occurred during shipping. If you notice any damage, <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/pages/contact" rel="noopener" target="_blank">contact us immediately</a>.</li><li>Save all packaging in case of <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/pages/returns-and-exchanges" rel="noopener" target="_blank">returns</a> and<a href="https://clivecoffee.com/pages/espresso-machine-repair-service" rel="noopener" target="_blank">&#xA0;repairs</a>.</li></ul><h3 id="step-2-water-quality-and-filling-the-reservoir">Step 2: Water quality and filling the reservoir</h3><ul><li>Before introducing water to your machine, it&apos;s essential to test it to ensure it&apos;s adequately soft, around 50 ppm (parts per million). Use the included water test strips from your home barista starter kit to verify the hardness of your water. To learn more about our recommendations for water quality, check out our blog post, <a href="https://clivecoffee.com/blogs/learn/the-importance-of-water-and-your-espresso-machine" rel="noopener" target="_blank">The Importance of Water and Your Espresso Machine.</a> Do not use distilled or Zero water in your espresso machine, as the machine will not register that the reservoir has been filled.&#xA0;</li><li>Lift the cup railing to remove the cup warming tray. Then, use both hands to remove the reservoir or fill it with water from the top. Fill the water tank with filtered, softened water and place the cup warming tray back on top of the machine.&#xA0;</li><li>Please note that you may have to fill the reservoir once more after the initial boiler fill phase.</li></ul><h3 id="step-3-turning-on-your-machine-and-filling-your-boilers">Step 3: Turning on your machine and filling your boilers</h3><ul><li>Your machine is set for use on a 110v outlet. Prior to starting the machine, check if the steam valve is closed. Check to ensure the machine is off (the power button is not pressed inward) and the drip tray is inserted accurately.</li><li>Plug your machine directly into a grounded socket (do not use an extension cord) and turn it on by using the ON/OFF button on the front panel. The green LED light around the power button will illuminate.&#xA0;</li><li>Now, the boiler will begin filling. The display will show the current settings for preinfusion (PI), ECO mode (ECO), and temperature unit (&#xB0;C or &#xB0;F) and then switch to regular operation. As soon as the boiler has finished filling, you will no longer hear any pump noise. Note: You may need to refill your water reservoir during or immediately after this process.&#xA0;</li><li>When the reservoir is low on water, the PID display will read tAn. When the reservoir is refilled, the boiler will begin to heat automatically.&#xA0;</li><li>Wait until the steam boiler pressure gauge reads 1.0 bar to 1.5 bar.</li><li>Lift the brew lever up and dispense around 250 ml/ 8.5 oz of water.
