Eureka Mignon: Basic Motor InspectionUpdated 4 months ago
Tools Needed:
- #2 Philips Screwdriver
1. Remove the Eureka emblem from the rear of the grinder.
2. Use the #2 Philips screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the top panel in place.
(Note: Try bracing the grinder with one hand, while you press firmly with your screwdriver and turn the screw with the other hand.)
3. Lift the top panel up and out to remove.
4. Remove the screws holding the top burr onto the grind chamber.
You may want to use a vacuum or brush to clear out any built up grounds from inside the grinder at this point.
5. Plug the grinder in and power it on. If your grinder has a screen, select manual grind mode.
NOTE: Make sure no loose hair or clothing comes near the grinder.
6. Press the portafilter switch or otherwise start the grinder.
- Does the timer on the screen start to count up?
- Does the burr begin to spin freely when the portafilter button is pressed?
- Can you hear any grinding or scraping noises?
- Adjust the grind size a a full turn in either direction and try again each time—does the burr spin when the portafilter button is pressed?
- If the burr does not spin, can you hear a humming or whining noise?
The answers to the above questions will help us diagnose potential problems with your grinder's motor or electrical functions.
